The Gurdjieff summerweek

“There are only people here with one and the same aim: the possibility to be.”

Working on oneself – with the support of a benevolent community

We invite you to our Gurdjieff Summerweek, rooted in the classical heritage of the practical Gurdjieff teaching—represented through the direct lineage of students by Robin Bloor.

In the spirit of the teaching and sustained by the power of group work, we experience ourselves and others as part of a larger context—a greater whole—and encounter the transformative power of a lived spiritual teaching, Gurdjieff music, and the Movements.

Thematic talks and discussions, daily meditation and Movements practice, communal cooking, a sweat lodge ritual, an evening trance dance, a construction project on the grounds (a small forest playground), barbecues and celebrations, working and learning together...

A week of shared presence in a spiritual community: meditating, exploring, and learning—featuring daily practice of the Gurdjieff Movements, thematic talks and presentations on the Gurdjieff teaching, group discussions and sharing circles, and collaboratively organized activities to shape and maintain the site, such as preparing meals and keeping the space in order.

The Teaching

G. I. Gurdjieff is one of the significant spiritual teachers of the 20th century. His teaching and cosmology offer us a new, objective perspective on the universe, human life, and our own inner workings. Spirituality and personal development become comprehensible and tangible—with each reflecting the other and hinting at the vast connections that can influence and transform our existence.

Robin is an experienced researcher and teacher within the direct lineage of the Gurdjieff teaching; in his lectures and discussions, he conveys profound knowledge and understanding of the teaching and its application in practical life.

With keen insight, precision, intensity, patience, and humor, he brings the richness, depth, and transformative power of the teaching into the present day.

The Movements

Gurdjieff Movements are traditional ritual dances, meditations, practical physical exercises, and prayers in motion—practiced and performed in a group. A Gurdjieff Movement consists of several sequences of movement involving individual body parts—feet, arms, head, torso, etc.—that are fundamentally simple yet often unfamiliar. Together, they create a harmoniously complex and beautiful pattern, presenting the dancer with a unique challenge: to be fully present.

"I realize that coordinating the various movements of my own body is not as simple as I thought. When I fully surrender to these movements while remaining awake, attentive, relaxed, and open, I experience moments of a special inner balance and harmony—states that have far-reaching and profound consequences for my everyday existence."

The substance—the essence—of Gurdjieff’s teaching reveals itself only through personal experience; practicing the Movements creates this transformative space for such experience:

An understanding of the teaching and one’s own perception merge—in the fire of practical effort, amidst a blend of persistence and joy—into something Gurdjieff calls "Being." Once experienced, one knows what this means and recognizes what one has been seeking throughout one's life.

The community

We invite you to be part of a community during this time—a group of people learning, exploring, talking, sharing, meditating, dancing, singing, celebrating, cooking, eating, resting, observing, marveling, awakening, and growing together.

Daily activities and shared projects will include: meditation, reading, singing and making music, cooking, eating, cleaning, maintaining the site, and small-scale construction projects to beautify the grounds.

Parents, families, and children—every vibrant community needs children; they are our future.
We look forward to welcoming you and your children, and we will organize appropriate childcare and joint activities together—everyone can contribute, and we can learn from one another.
There is no charge for children.

Work on oneself and the practice of the Gurdjieff Movements lead back deep into one’s own center—back to oneself and to the stillness of the heart.

At the beautiful "Tanzheimat" seminar center in the Lüneburg Heath—featuring a spacious group room and nestled in the forest—we share the practical experiences of a spiritual community: daily learning, reading, meditation, dancing, movement, cooking, dining, sharing circles, practical work (construction projects & site maintenance), personal study, self-reflection, artistic expression, childcare, and quiet time...
an intensive and impactful program for growth, for repeatedly encountering one’s true self, and for living authentically.

Creative, shared cooking and dining.
Accommodated in the large group lodge—in charming rooms sleeping two to four—we share a special time together
and experience true community: nourishing, motivating, inspiring, and vibrant.
